How to fix A Crack in The Rav4 Windshield

First crack in the windshield There are a lot of brands of sealants/repairs out there. Does anyone have a recommendation for such a product?

There are a lot of products out there that allow you to do the repair yourself. I’ve used the permatex kit and it works well. However, the best way to save your windshield is to take it to a glass repair professional and have them drill and fill it. I’ve had glass filled before and my insurance covered it 100% because it was preventative. If you have to pay out of pocket, I don’t think it will be much.

Your insurance company will usually do it for free because it saves them money compared to replacing it.

Do it right away before water and dirt get into the cracks or it will be hard to repair them properly.

I’ve used Rain X Crack Repair! It worked great for me!

Professional Crack Repair Shop

I would take it to a professional crack repair shop, replacing these windshields is expensive.

I’ve had cracks like this and drove 5 miles to get them treated and sealed only to have them spread within those 5 miles.

State Farm will replace it for free after the deductible.

Auto parts stores usually carry only one brand of repair kit, and I’ve never had a bad one.

Some insurance companies will pay for free glass repair

3M or Permatex repair kits work great. Super easy to use.

My insurance company repaired it for free at Safelite. Be careful – they will tell you you need new wiper blades due to broken glass and those cost $70 and are not covered.

I use Permatex on all my wipers and have never had a long one.

Replacing Windshield

I had a crack in the windshield of my 2021 xle and after it was fixed the crack cracked again so I had the windshield replaced. I’ve had terrible luck with this.

I just had the windshield replaced yesterday and I have to recalibrate the cam tomorrow …… I hope in the end… The stock windshield is thin…

Call a window shop and ask for a price to repair the chip. I can find repair shops in my area for between $40-70.

I have one of these as well. It’s filled but still noticeable

Maybe it was caused by one of the diamonds bursting.

Can we put the TRD front bumper on a stock model? I like the TRD front bumper.

I really like the color on my wife’s TRD car and I’m slowly getting used to it.

Did you expose it to the sun and then rinse it with cold water?

I didn’t wash it, a guy who does detail car washes did.

Windshields are garbage.

They’re absolute garbage. I’ve heard of over 50 people with cracked windshields.

Glass Shop 

It’s not that bad. They can be fixed at a glass shop for $10.

This happened to me when I was driving an Ioniq 5 and the car was driving so hard that it hit a rock on my windshield and replaced it.

That’s why I don’t like to get behind trucks.

All my hits have been from oncoming traffic and slickrock trucks in Montana that don’t have to tailgate to get debris.

I’m sorry to say this happened to my other car, but when I was driving my rav4 I could hear the rocks hitting the bumper and glass.

Windshields don’t last long in our state.

I was just saying two days ago that the roads in Florida are great, unlike Michigan where rocks and debris on the road can shatter the windshield and then this happens, I guess I brought it on myself.

My car cracked less than two months after I bought it. I’ve even seen small rocks bounce off the road and hit my windshield.

The same thing happened to me with a small rock, and I was told that the windshield is very fragile.

It was just a splinter, but it will crack.

I had the same thing happen to me and I think the window is defective.

Good luck, I got a window from a dealer for $1800 and it wasn’t in stock at any of the places I called.

Fixing it now with epoxy to prevent cracking

I picked up my car from the dealership less than 5 days ago and it cracked!

My car cracked in the same place! I’m about to puke. I have only made one payment on this car.

There is something wrong with the windshield on these things. I have never had a windshield chip or crack on any other vehicle I have owned. But on the RAV it happened 3 times in the first 2 months.

I had the same crack in my RAV4. I called Safelite Repair and they fixed it for free with my insurance.

Go to a glass shop and see if they can fix it.

Many states have provisions for insurance companies to repair chips for free, like Colorado. You should check your state to see if this is the case in your state. I have had two chips in my car. Once three years ago and once a few months ago. Both times it was fixed and neither time it got worse. But not everyone is that lucky.

It will happen again.

Repair Kit

You can fix it with a repair kit from an auto parts store. Please follow the instructions as soon as possible.

Yeah, that sucks! I had a big gaping hole in my window on the drive home from the dealership.

My window cracked yesterday, too.

Don’t you hate that? I haven’t fixed it yet. I’m on vacation in another state. I’ll wait until I get home to fix it.

Ugh, this has never happened to me before. I just bought the car in January and this is the biggest headache for me. At least my insurance paid for it and I’ll get it fixed tomorrow.
