Are Bfgoodrich Tires Good in the Snow for Rav4

I have a 2021 Rav 4 XLE AWD. I live in Colorado and do a lot of driving in the snow and trips to the mountains. Are these tires a good choice?

Great tires but a little noisy.

I bought Toyo Open Country. also a good choice!

I also run these tires, but I went up in size.

Other Brand

Yes, but also check out the Falken Wildpeak.

Agree. It’s the quietest AT I’ve ever had and great in the snow.

It’s also great for the price. The AT buggies have higher mileage, I think 15k+, but I can’t say how noisy they are. I think they are a little quieter because they are not as aggressive.

I bought mine in Denver and it took a week and it was definitely worth the wait.

Save some money and get the General Grabber ATX better tires for less money. We use them on our trucks in Colorado and have never had a problem. Plus they come with a mileage warranty.

I also live in the mountains and snow in Montana. My Rav4 was used with brand new “all season” Toyos on the stock rims, I bought a new set of steel rims and then had studded snow tires mounted and balanced at Discount Tire for $1300.

I didn’t buy new sensors because I can live with the TPMS light on in the winter. In my opinion, “all season” tires do not perform well on snow and ice in the winter. If you can’t go that route, I put Falken Wildpeaks on my old truck, and they perform quite well in the snow. But nowhere near as good as dedicated snow tires.

Apparently the RAV4 can be driven in the winter, but braking distances on icy roads are much better with snow tires.

I’ve used these tires several times on all my trucks and they definitely perform well. Keep in mind that these are not 100% dedicated snow tires, but they are Tri-Peaks snow tires and the only issue is their size. They are low range D which means they are quite heavy. My suggestion would be to find a passenger-only tire in that size, which means it weighs the same as the stock tire so you don’t lose miles per gallon or performance.

They are good tires, I have them on my Tacoma and they are good but noisy and use a lot of gas.

Good for snow, yes. Terrible for rain, yes.

I use Nitto Nomad Grapplers. I love them!

Go with the Falken Wildpeak A/T3W. Too bad the Cooper Discoverer A/T3 Sport 2 isn’t available in the US because they would make the BF KO2s go up in smoke ……

I used it and was not impressed. It was on a big Dodge truck though. I used studded winter tires and they worked better.

I have heard that these Ko2’s are not as good as people say they are. I’ve heard they wear evenly and last a decent amount of time, but not great in the rain.

For the RAV4, a street tire might be better for snow. It’s an all-terrain tire. Good for 4Runners and people who want to do some off-roading. If I lived in a snowy area, I would go with a lighter street tire with a snow rating of 3.

Falken Wild Peaks

We also live in Colorado and use Falken Wild Peaks as well, we live on dirt roads in the mountains and they seem durable and not noisy on the highway.

I use Nitto Grappler G2’s on both dirt bikes and they roll well enough for snow and work surprisingly well in the rain. Just a little noisy. I had KO2’s on my truck and wasn’t impressed with them overall, but that was a few years ago and they had some tread modifications.

I like mine a lot, they do get a little noisy on pavement. But we do a lot of gravel roads (with big sharp rocks) and haven’t had any problems.

It doesn’t snow much on the coast, lots of rain, but no snow yet. I’m pretty sure the higher passes are snowed in by now.

You may want to consider all-terrain tires with the “Three Peaks Mountain” logo on the tires. Check out Falken, Nitto and Toyo. Their line of all-terrain tires offers the best value for money.

Nokian WRG4 all-weather tires are a quality tire you should consider.

I’m on my second set. Great tires, but heavy. I plan to get new tires next time I replace them.

I use special snow tires, Blizzaks, year round. They don’t last too long, but perform well in almost all road conditions. If you’re dealing with snow, don’t use all-season tires, and AT tires usually suck in the rain, too.

I bought them in September and really like them. Because they are heavier, I may lose 2-3 mpg. but I live in upstate NY where there are a lot of dirt/rocky roads, so it was necessary to switch to them.

In Colorado I use Nokian Outpost APT tires. Very nice.

Good tires, but noisy and not well balanced

Michelin CrossClimate 2 is the best 3pmsf rated all-weather tire in the world. I have replaced them on all my vehicles over the last few years. The Michelin CrossClimate 2 is the best 3pmsf rated all-weather tire in the world and I have replaced them on all my vehicles over the past few years. It’s a great all-weather tire, as good as any dedicated winter tire, but also has excellent summer performance and wear characteristics. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5rFce9IE_aA

Conclusion

My dad uses Ko2’s on his Cherokee crossover, and while they look great, they’re not the best choice for snow and ice. I’ve heard good things about the Wilpeak AT3W.

It will lower the mileage.

I have them on my winter car. Love them to death.

I love how my car handles in the snow.

Yes go to 4wheel parts and buy a tire cheaper than discount tires and bring it back and they will be cheaper than you. At least that’s what I do when I go tire shopping.

Also, I usually use Hankook Dynapro ATM2 tires on my RAV and BFG tires on my GMC.
