How to Fix Toyota Rav4 Navigation App Not Installed

Anyone know what this is? I have not been able to set up navigation, every time I try this is the result.

You need to have CarPlay or Android Auto installed on your phone, your car does not have GPS!

I can’t use CarPlay either. I talked to my dealer and they’re doing something weird, that’s all.

Alice Rosa, you need to use the correct cable for your phone to work. I think it is a data input cable. My dealer didn’t know either, my kids figured it out.

A USB cable like this should be used to get your car player or Android to work properly.

If you are using an iPhone, Siri will need to be turned on, I had trouble with that too, but then realized it needed to be turned on.

I’m pretty sure this will cost extra through the retailer. I would recommend connecting your phone via bluetooth and using the maps on your phone.

I have connected my phone to Goggle Maps and it has never shown up while in use.

That’s what I was using until I traded in my 2019 model for a 2024 model.

My car only uses Apple Car Player for navigation.

Android Autopilot connected via Bluetooth shows maps

Plug your phone into the USB port under the center of the dash. Then press it again. You will see Android Auto or Apple CarPlay.

My 22 Rav does not use Bluetooth navigation, you have to plug into the USB port in the storage box in front of the shifter.

Shouldn’t the dealer set it up before I leave? This should not be left to the customer.

That kind of thing shouldn’t be left to the dealer. Before I bought my wife’s Rav4, I tested every electronic device on the car. From cruise control, reverse sensors, sunroof, stereo components, radar, to emergency braking.

You don’t have navigation. Plug in your cell phone and use the in-car entertainment system.

Unless you set it up through your dealer (extra charge), you do not get Toyota Navigation. I had the same issue with my 2021 XLE Premium. Just use the in-car playback option via USB.

If you plug your phone into the USB port on the bulkhead below the radio, it should work fine. Press the map button when the phone is plugged in and Google Maps will come up. That’s how I use it.

I use Waze and it works fine with Android Auto. The map and everything comes up.

You probably don’t have an XSE, only certain models have the maps app.

It’s through the phone. Plug it in and you can set up navigation.

I plug in my phone and if the connection is loose, the screen comes up.

I get the same message when I click on Maps, but if you have an Android phone or Apple car player connected, you can use the maps there.

I’m trying to figure this out. I have a 2021 now and haven’t set it up myself because I hardly drive it. I have it on my 2019 and previous Toyotas.

Mine is a Limited Edition and the maps work great with the Suna.

Do you specifically list “navigation” as one of the installed options? If you could send a picture of the Toyota Navigator that would be great. I’m curious.

My Rav is made in Japan and there were no “options” when we ordered the limited edition. It has all the features built in.

It’s not just the limited edition models. I have a 22 hybrid limited edition with the jbl premium, but it doesn’t have the nav package so I have to plug in my phone.

Nope. I have a fully loaded XSE with built-in navigation and yes, my map button works.

My car says the same thing. I thought I had everything in my car. I also have the audio plus premium tech package in my car.

I have a 22 limited edition but no navigation unless I don’t know how to use it yet. I can only use CarPlay.

I’ve heard that too. I’ve also had bad experiences with Android Auto (super slow and basically unusable).

It only works with Apple CarPlay and Android over a wired cable.

The 2022 XSE works fine here. The maps are practically the same style as the Lexus system.

Mine is a limited edition, so the maps work and update automatically.

That’s the downside of our rav4, we have to connect our phone to view the maps.

Only for cars with built-in navigation packages. Otherwise you will get this message or it will take you to Apple CarPlay Maps if it is connected.

It works fine on my limited edition …… In fact, you can see it in the background on the home screen as if it was never turned off.

I wish the map feature was Google Maps instead of Apple Maps, which I hate.

Yes, my navigation works without plugging in my phone.

Just plug it into the USB port and if you have Google Maps or Waze, use it. It also comes with Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. all in all, better than the Toyota Nav system. It’s both trashy and a money saver.

I have a ’21 TRD with factory navigation, and the map button can be used to bring up the built-in navigation app without plugging in my phone.

It’s a premium JBL, otherwise you need a cell phone.

No, I use the stock radio and the map button only opens the cell phone map when connected to the wireless car player.

Toyota used to have an app called entune, but they have since discontinued it …… When you use entune, there is an option to download the scout app, but they canceled that too. That sucks.

If your car has built-in navigation, the map button will display the navigation screen whether your phone is plugged in or not. In this generation, if the plastic around the screen is matte (not shiny), there is no built-in navigation.

My map shows the on-board map system. I never use it. I only use the almighty Waze when paired with Android Auto.

Your model does not have built-in navigation. You need to install an app. Higher models have built-in navigation and don’t need an app.

Yes, it doesn’t need a cell phone to navigate, and it works just like the Garmin in my Jeep.

Yes, you have the JBL premium sound package that comes with the in-car GPS.

Fiancée has a 2020 XSE Hybrid with the Nav/Audio package. The map button is available for the installed GPS.

My 2021 LE Gas does not have nav/audio. The map button is the same as yours as it is not an installed option. Connect your phone, click Maps, and use your favorite GPS app (Waze). Problem solved.

You will need to connect using Bluetooth on your phone for this to work.

I don’t see why not. I use Waze (a Google company) on my Android car. I used to have an iPhone that worked with Apple CarPlay.

I have an iPhone, but it only uses iPhone Maps. When I go to General > Settings > I can’t add Google Maps.

I have to use the USB port to connect to …… before I can use Waze.

My phone needs to be plugged in. Google Maps/Waze is better in my opinion.
