Any good recommendations for front and rear dash cams for Rav4

Any recommendations for front and rear dash cams currently on the market?

Viofo A139 Pro, almost all other dash cams have poor image quality. Maybe the new Blackvue DR970X is an exception, but it doesn’t come with a huge price tag. In any case, they all use the same new Sony Starvis sensor.

If the A139Pro is out of your budget, get the Viofo a119 mini 2.

I don’t want to bore you with the details because it would be too technical. But if you’re interested, check out the Vortex radar video and the LTT dashcam video.

My Sesequoia has a 3 channel radar. I love it but mine is not the pro version so no 4k images. I like it for the 3 channels though. Now is a good time to get it.

Qhua Xab Thoj Pro has a new interior with new sensors and everything. I don’t like the shape of the dash cam. I kind of like the smaller camera with a screen, but I’m used to the body style of the A139. It looks sleeker and more understated.

It’s not my favorite shape either, but it looks better on the dashboard now compared to the rectangular products like my Thinkware. I love my A139 for it’s micro memory card capacity, so I got the new A229 for the rav4 as well.

I agree, I just bought one and installed 2/3 of it. the front and interior IR units were easy to install. The rear I had to pull out all the panels to wire. My car is a 3rd gen so my rear hatch opens instead of flipping up which is a little annoying. This means I have to wire the passenger side to keep it clean.

I have a 512GB microSD card that works great. I tried it in my Thinkware U1000 and it wouldn’t accept it, which sucks because I want to get as much data as possible. I haven’t tried a 256GB card in the thinkware yet, but a 128GB card works fine for now. For 3 channel, 512G is a must for all data and resolution.

I’m considering installing front and rear dash cams, preferably without tape, what cameras are people using? Thanks!

I’m using a thinkwear q800 pro on both my 2021 trail and 2022 carolla cross.

I use Viofo because it’s cost effective and works in -30 degree weather. Other brands won’t work in that cold.

It comes with tape, but it also comes with a clear static cling film that you can put on the windshield before you stick it on to make sure it’s easy to peel off when you need it. It’s kind of like putting a piece of clear tape on your windshield before you put 3M adhesive on it. Check out the reviews on YouTube. Best bang for the buck? Possibly.

Good choice! I have the Viofo A129 plus duo.

Does anyone have any suggestions for front and rear dash (mirror) cams?

I’ve never seen a rearview mirror camera and it would require wiring in the car. Might be nice, but dash cams of any kind are very subjective.

Yes, I need one because the dog crate goes in the back and it will completely block my view.

Aha, that makes sense. You make a very good point. I suggest you check out Amazon and watch a few more YouTube videos before you make up your mind. That’s exactly what I did. I looked briefly in the rearview mirror, but the piece behind the mirror would block the forward facing camera.

Where is the rear camera mounted?

You all have front and rear cameras, where is the rear camera mounted? I’m not sure where to mount it since my doors are flush.

For those of you who have dash/rear cameras installed, a follow-up question: What are the best brands that are affordable? How difficult are they to install and use?

You can buy plug and play dash cams. Installation is very simple. You can also buy an adapter to connect it to the battery.

I use a $120 dash cam, but it depends on the user’s preference as to what features they need.

I put it right under the rearview mirror camera.

Nice! Mine is a little different because my doors are flush and yours is a hatchback?

My dash cam is double sided.N2 Pro. great camera, great video quality. Wait until Black Friday to get one if you can. They will be drastically reduced in price.

What about a backup camera? I would love to add one, but my car is also a 3rd gen and I don’t want to wire it outside the car.

My 2009 has a backup camera and I installed a front and rear camera that records every event.

I am considering adding a dash cam. Any suggestions on how to do this?

I am using blackvue dr900 front and rear cameras.

I have an older Thinkware and they make a great product. The cheap cameras bother me…

I can only help you with a link to where I ordered them from.

I can only help you with my order link.

I am looking for the same product. Does anyone know of any affordable products that can record 24/7 without constant power?

I know there are some that can come with a battery attachment, but why do I need one without constant power?

I’d like to get a 24/7 recorder in case someone hits me in a parking lot or breaks in.

A car battery would be fine. I use Thinkware, which has two power connections to the car, one for constant power and one for accessory power. The accessory power is basically used to tell the dash cam when to go into “driving” mode (different sensitivity settings, etc.), but the rest of the time the camera records in “parking” mode, which in my case uses both motion detection (camera) and vibration detection (physical) to record events that occur while parking. I think most dash cams have this feature, although some of the cheaper ones may not.

This seems to be the modern version I use, although there are a lot better cameras and stuff out there now.

Almost everyone is wasting money on a car recorder.

Honestly, just go on Amazon and look for a reasonably priced one with good reviews and there are plenty to choose from.

I’m very happy with my Garmin, it’s very small. I mounted it in front of my rearview mirror and can’t see it at all from the driver’s seat or from outside the car. The video quality is also good.
